Reliever Bruce Rondon Low Motivation Caused him to be Sent Home

Bruce Rondon, baseball, Detroit Tigers

If you are playing for a bad team getting motivated can be tough. This happens to closer Bruce Rondon he was sent home by the Detroit Tigers for the rest of the season because of his low "effort level." Tiger's Manager Brad Ausmus didn't give any other information, but catcher Alex Avila added some insight to the move.

Alex Avila said the move is "To be a big component of the team, you've got to be here, on the team." He added, "You want to put out your best effort everyday. No matter the situation."

It seems that the locker room approved what Ausmus decided to punish Rondon.

Rondon will finish the year with poor numbers. He posted a 5.81 ERA over 31 innings. Curiously, Rondon's lack of effort didn't necessarily lead to worse numbers. Since the All-Star break, Rondon has posted a 4.50 ERA. That's not great, but considering his first half ERA was 7.62, it was an improvement.
