Buffalo Bills Made History By Hiring NFL's first full-time female coach
The Buffalo Bills promoted Kathryn Smith last Wednesday night for their special teams quality control coach on Rex Ryan's staff, making her the NFL's first full-time female coach.
She will assist special teams coordinator Danny Crossman and his assistant Eric Smith, she will replace Michael Hamlin who was not retained.
Her appointment comes after Jen Welter did a 6 week training camp internship last summer coaching inside linebackers for the Arizona Cardinals.
Smith served as the administrative assistant to head coach Rex Ryan this season after working for 12 years for the New York Jets, including the final 6 with Ryan as Jets head coach.
Bills offensive lineman Richie Incognito expressed his support for Smith in a tweet.
"Congrats Kathryn!! I know you will do a great job," Incognito said in a post that included a thumb's up and smiley face.
This is not the first time the Bills broke the gender barrier. Linda Bogdan, in 1986, became the NFL's first female scout, when she joined the team's player personnel department. Bogdan, who died in 2009, was the daughter of late Bills Hall of Fame owner Ralph Wilson.

Buffalo Bills beat New York Jets 22-17 Rex Ryan Get his payback
Rex Ryan former head coach of the Jets, he was fired this offseason, got his 27th career victory at MetLife Stadium Thursday night as his team Buffalo Bills win against New York Jets 22-17.
Bills (5-4) win earned them a tie for one of the two wild card spots in the AFC with the Jets (5-4) and Pittsburgh Steelers (5-4).
The Jets' had too many miscues specially in 4 pivotal turnovers that dig them under. When Jets receiver Brandon Marshall pull up a 14-yard pass for a touchdown in the third quarter, coach Todd Bowles decided to kick the extra point to put the score at 22-10 rather than to go for the two-point conversion.
Then when they are desperate to cancel a two-touchdown lead, Bowles later went for it on 4th-and-2 early in the 4th quarter, but New York ended up turning the ball over on downs.
It was one stretch in the second quarter, however, that put the Jets in a deep hole they could never climb out of. After Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw an interception to Bills safety Corey Graham, Buffalo took advantage of the excellent field position and converted a Dan Carpenter field goal four plays later, knotting the game at 3-3.
