Celtics Crowned Champions: A Thrilling Game 5 Showdown

Jason Tatum Celtics vs Luka Doncic Mavs

The Boston Celtics dominated the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals, winning the series with a decisive 106-88 victory in the final game. Jayson Tatum led the Celtics with an impressive 31 points, 8 rebounds, 11 assists, and 2 steals, while Jaylen Brown contributed 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals.

On the Mavericks side, Luka Doncic scored 28 points, but Kyrie Irving struggled, only managing 15 points. Kristaps Porzingis had a quiet game, scoring just 5 points.

Despite the Mavericks outscoring the Celtics in both the third (21-19) and fourth (21-20) quarters, Boston's dominant first-half performance proved too much for Dallas to overcome. The Celtics' regular-season excellence had finally translated into an NBA championship, a well-deserved reward for their hard work and dedication.

In the final minute, with the game firmly in hand, Tatum was spotted bent over and sobbing. One of his children found him in this emotional moment, and the Celtics' superstar swept the child up in his arms, the burden of expectation and pressure finally lifted from his shoulders.

As the substitutions began and the ovations echoed through the arena, the 38-year-old Al Horford, a first-time NBA champion, raised his arms in triumph. The Celtics' bench players, Pritchard and Hauser, replaced Brown and Tatum, allowing the starters to soak in the moment and the accolades from the crowd.

Kyrie Irving Traded To Boston for Isaiah Thomas

Kyrie Irving, Isaiah Thomas, Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers,

Earlier Kyrie Irving put out his desire to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers, and on Tuesday he got his wish. He was traded to the Boston Celtics for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the Brooklyn Nets' 2018 first-round pick.

“Kyrie is one of the best scorers in the NBA. He has proven that on the biggest stage, the NBA Finals, the last three years,” said Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge. “He’s been an NBA Champion, an Olympic Gold Medalist, and a four-time All-Star. For all he’s accomplished, we think his best years are ahead of him.”

“Isaiah and Jae have been a huge part of our success,” said Celtics Co-Owner and Governing Partner Wyc Grousbeck. “Isaiah’s playoff performance under very difficult circumstances will live on in history, and we wish them all the best.”

Selected by Cleveland with the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, Irving, 25, has posted career averages of 21.6 points (45.7% FG, 38.3% 3-PT, 87.3% FT), 3.4 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.32 steals and 34.2 minutes in 381 games (all starts) throughout six seasons with the Cavaliers. The 6-3 guard has registered a scoring average north of 20.0 points in four of his six NBA seasons, including a career-high 25.2 points in 2016-17.

Irving played a vital role in helping Cleveland capture its first NBA title in 2016, averaging 25.2 points on 47.5% shooting (44.0% 3-PT), and 4.7 assists during the Cavaliers 21-game playoff run to history. He scored a postseason-high 41 points on 17-of-24 shooting (5-7 3-PT) in a win against the Warriors in Game 5 of the NBA Finals that season, one of 18 games in which the Duke product logged at least 20 points. In three career postseason appearances, all of which resulted in trips to the NBA Finals, Irving has averaged 23.9 points (46.5% FG, 41.5% 3-PT, 87.6% FT), 3.1 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 1.46 steals and 36.4 minutes in 52 games.

In parts of three seasons with the Celtics, Thomas averaged 24.7 points (44.3% FG, 36.8% 3-PT, 88.9% FT), 2.7 rebounds and 6.0 assists. Crowder produced 12.8 points (44.4% FG, 35.3% 3-PT, 80.4% FT), 5.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists in parts of three seasons in Boston.

“Isaiah embodied what it meant to be a Celtic. He captured fans’ hearts not only with his spirit, but his personality,” said Ainge. “Jae’s toughness was contaigious for our team. He improved his skills each year, but it’s his energy and fight that will be remembered. We wish them and their families the very best.”

This is no surprise at all since the Celtics were, by far, the team that could offer the best deal for Irving, an All-Star point guard who is likely the best at-the-rim finisher in the NBA.

The deal not only gets them Irving, but means they don’t have to worry about giving a long-term, lucrative deal to Thomas, who may have already had the best season of his career and who seems to have a bad hip. With Kyrie in green, Thomas had to be included in the deal, as he would not have accepted a role backing up Kyrie. Even though Thomas hit all the necessary plot points this summer to gain the favor of Boston fans everywhere, trading him was a no-brainer when it meant that Boston would get Irving, who will now slot in alongside Gordon Hayward and Al Horford—creating a very competent big three—glue guys Marcus Smart and Marcus Morris, and young guns Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

N.B.A. Draft Lottery 2017: Celtics Got 1st Pick, Markelle Fultz?

NBA Draft Lottery 2017, Boston Celtics, Markelle Fultz

The Boston Celtics got the top pick on Tuesday night in the 2017 draft lottery. They had acquired the pick as part of a trade with the Nets in 2013. The Los Angeles Lakers got the No. 2 pick, followed by the Philadelphia 76ers at No. 3. The Knicks, who had a 5.3 percent chance of getting the top pick, received the No. 8 slot.

Boston had a 25% chance to get the 1st seed and the opportunity to build an Eastern Conference giant. It was part of the payoff for a 2013 trade in which the Nets sent the Celtics their 2014, 2016, and 2018 first-round picks, along with the right to swap picks this year, for Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce.

While Garnett and Pierce are now retired and the Nets were the worst team in the league this season, the Celtics have continued to build a contender with those assets. They took Jaylen Brown with the third overall pick last June and now have the No. 1 pick to leverage.

Here's my mock draft for 2017:

1st Boston Celtics : Markelle Fultz is an easy top pick, Danny Ainge will be an idiot to pass on him.
2nd Los Angeles Lakers: Lonzo Ball
3rd Philadelphia 76ers: Jayson Tatum
4th Phoenix Suns: Josh Jackson
5th Sacramento Kings: De’Aaron Fox

Russell Westbrook More Likely To End Up in Boston

Russell Westbrook, Boston Celtics

According to Bleacher Report’s Howard Beck, the Boston Celtics are inching closer in getting Oklahoma City Thunder star point guard Russell Westbrook and it is his most likely destination.

“What I’m hearing here in Las Vegas from some GMs is that they think not only Russell Westbrook will get traded, that it’ll be sooner than later,” Beck said in a video posted Wednesday morning, “and that the most likely destination now would be the Boston Celtics.”

Westbrook averaged 23.5 points and 10.4 assists last season, in what was the most efficient year of his thus far tremendous career.

Boston Celtics' Rajon Rondo Traded to Dallas Mavericks

Boston Celtics, Rajon Rondo, Dallas Mavericks, Rondo trade

Former All-Star guard Rajon Rondo was traded to the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday evening December 18. Dallas Mavericks wants to be a contender and have a run at the championship with aging stars Dirk Nowitzki and Tyson Chandler. Mavericks will now have an explosive back-court featuring Rondo and Monta Ellis.

The deal will ship Rajon Rondo and rookie forward Dwight Powell to Dallas in exchange for guards Jameer Nelson, Jae Crowder, forward Brandan Wright, 1st-round pick for 2015, and 2nd-round pick for 2016. The 1st-round pick for 2015 has lottery protection, which means it is protected from picks 1-3 and 15-30.

The Dallas Maverics and Boston Celtics will have a scheduled trade call with the NBA office on Thursday night to complete the deal, which includes Boston getting a $13 million trade exception that it has one year to use.

Rondo's numbers is getting to his All-star level after the injury his averaged this season are 8.3 points, 10.8 assists and 7.5 rebounds.

Rondo on his Twitter page thanks Celtics fans and looks forward to Dallas.

Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce traded to Brooklyn Nets

Kevin Garnett,Paul Pierce, Brooklyn Nets,Boston Celtics,Nets Celtics trade

The Brooklyn Nets and the Boston Celtics have agreed in principle to trade future Hall of Famers Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce after Garnett agreed to waive his no-trade clause.

Garnett waived his no-trade clause after the Nets agreed to fully guarantee the $12 million owed him for the 2014-15 season, the third year of his contract. Prior to the agreement, the Nets could have bought out Garnett for $6 million.

Garnett approve the deal so he can join his close friend, Pierce, in Brooklyn where they could play for longtime rival Jason Kidd.

The trade can't be made official by the NBA until July 10.

The trade comes with a heavy cost for the Nets: They face a luxury-tax bill of nearly $80 million. Their payroll will be close to $100 million.

Nets will send Gerald Wallace, Kris Joseph, the expiring deal of Kris Humphries and three future first-round picks (2014, '16 and '18) to the Celtics.

Celtics guard Jason Terry joins Garnett and Pierce in the package going to the Nets, sources said. The Nets also will send back Reggie Evans and do a sign-and-trade involving Keith Bogans, a source said.

LA Clippers and Boston Celtics finally agreed on Doc Rivers trade

LA Clippers and Boston Celtics trade,LA Clippers,Boston Celtics,Doc Rivers, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett,

For weeks the circus of the on and off then on again LA Clippers and Boston Celtics trade rumors about Doc Rivers have been dominating sport news, now they have finally agreed in principle on a deal that will send Coach Doc Rivers to Los Angeles Clippers, according to NBA executives who were not authorized to speak publicly on the situation.

In return, the Clippers will send the Celtics a first-round pick in 2015. The sticking point had been that the Clippers wanted the draft pick to be lottery protected, but the Celtics ended up getting their wish as the pick will be unprotected.

The Clippers will continue the contract of Doc Rivers with Boston, which has three years and $21 million left on it.

The earlier proposed deal that would send Doc Rivers and forward Kevin Garnett to the Clippers in exchange for center DeAndre Jordan and two first-round picks would have violated the collective-bargaining agreement, which doesn't allow a team to trade players in a deal "involving coaches' contracts."

Other candidates are Byron Scott and Brian Shaw, they both had conversations with the Clippers regarding the parameters of a contract following meetings with Donald Sterling last week. Clippers was pushing for Scott by talking to his representative but, I guess CP3 really like Doc Rivers to be his coach.

Blake Griffin for Dwight Howard trade Rumor

Blake Griffin, Dwight Howard, LA Lakers, LA Clippers,

Interesting rumors in the Laker land, with Dwight Howard and Blake Griffin trade. ESPN reported, that the Clippers want to bring Howard to please Chris Paul.

However, a lot of people believes that Blake Griffin is untouchable in trades since he is still young and have an oppurtunity to improve, and he's also a team player. Dwight Howard is still the top center in the NBA despite his poor performance this season.

Once the Clippers and Celtics are done with their negotiations, Kevin Garnett and Doc Rivers for DeAndre Jordan and two draft picks, this will be an interesting trade.

New York Knicks Eliminates the Boston Celtics, Knicks, Boston Celtics, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce

Despite the late run of the Boston Celtics their valiant effort cannot overcome the Knicks huge lead. Boston scored 33 points in the 4th quarter to keep things interesting. They were down 20 points 67-47 at the end of the 3rd quarter but somehow manage to score 33 points in the 4th to keep it close but the run wasn't enough. NBA Center Jason Collins is Gay

NBA Center Jason Collins is Gay, gay, GLAAD, Boston Celtics, Wizard, Kobe Bryant

Jason Collins admitted that he is gay and proud of it. He has become the first active player in major US professional sports to come out as gay.

In an article on Sports Illustrated website, Collins writes about his sexual orientation:

"I'm a 34-year-old NBA center. I'm black. And I'm gay."

"I didn't set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I'm happy to start the conversation. I wish I wasn't the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, 'I'm different. If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I'm raising my hand."

"I endured years of misery and gone to enormous lengths to live a lie."

"If you're in the league, and I haven't been your teammate, I surely have been one of your teammates' teammates. Or one of your teammates' teammates' teammates."

"I take charges and I foul - that's been my forte. ... I set picks with my 7-foot, 255-pound body to get guys like Jason Kidd, John Wall and Paul Pierce open. I sacrifice myself for other players."

"I go against the gay stereotype, which is why I think a lot of players will be shocked: That guy is gay? But I've always been an aggressive player, even in high school. Am I so physical to prove that being gay doesn't make you soft? Who knows? That's something for a psychologist to unravel."

"I'm glad I'm coming out in 2013 rather than 2003. The climate has shifted; public opinion has shifted. And yet we still have so much farther to go. Everyone is terrified of the unknown, but most of us don't want to return to a time when minorities were openly discriminated against."

"I realized I needed to go public when Massachusetts congressman Joe Kennedy, my old roommate at Stanford, told me he had just marched in Boston’s 2012 Gay Pride Parade.  I’m seldom jealous of others, but hearing what Joe had done filled me with envy. I want to do the right thing and not hide anymore. I want to march for tolerance, acceptance and understanding. I want to take a stand and say, “me, too.”

About the reaction of his fellow NBA players "The simple answer is, I have no idea."

"Openness may not completely disarm prejudice, but it's a good place to start. It all comes down to education. I'll sit down with any player who's uneasy about my coming out. Still, if I'm up against an intolerant player, I'll set a pretty hard pick on him. And then move on."

"I don't mind if they heckle me. I've been booed before. There have been times when I've wanted to boo myself. But a lot of ill feelings can be cured by winning. I hope fans will respect me for raising my hand. And I hope teammates will remember that I've never been an in-your-face kind of guy. All you need to know is that I'm single. I see no need to delve into specifics."

"Some people insist they've never met a gay person. But Three Degrees of Jason Collins dictates that no NBA player can claim that anymore. Pro basketball is a family. And pretty much every family I know has a brother, sister or cousin who's gay. In the brotherhood of the NBA, I just happen to be the one who's out."

Collins told his brother Jarron that he was gay last summer.

"He was downright astounded. He never suspected. So much for twin telepathy. But by dinner that night, he was full of brotherly love. For the first time in our lives, he wanted to step in and protect me."

Collins has been a journeyman in the NBA, he played for six teams in 12 seasons he is now with the Washington Wizards after being traded by the Boston Celtics. He is now a free agent.

He was a first-round draft pick in 2001 and averages 3.6 points and 3.8 rebounds for the New Jersey Nets, Grizzlies, Timberwolves, Hawks, and Celtics.

By coming out he receives a lot of support from a lot of people:

Injured Los Angeles Lakers Kobe Bryant tweeted, "Don't suffocate who u r because of the ignorance of others" "courage" "support"

Billie Jean King, a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame who confirmed she was gay said, "We've got to get rid of the shame. That's the main thing. And Jason's going to help that. He's going to help give people courage to come out. I guarantee you he's going to feel much lighter, much freer. The truth does set you free, there's no question. It doesn't mean it's easy. But it sets you free."

President of Washington Wizards, Ernie Grunfeld said: "We are extremely proud of Jason and support his decision to live his life proudly and openly. He has been a leader on and off the court and an outstanding teammate throughout his NBA career. Those qualities will continue to serve him both as a player and as a positive role model for others of all sexual orientation."

Boston Cetics coach Doc Rivers; "I am extremely happy and proud of Jason Collins. He's a pro's pro. He is the consummate professional and he is one of my favorite 'team' players I have ever coached." "If you have learned anything from Jackie Robinson, it is that teammates are always the first to accept. It will be society who has to learn tolerance."

Nike released statement: "We admire Jason's courage and are proud that he is a Nike athlete. Nike believes in a level playing field where an athlete's sexual orientation is not a consideration."

Washington Capitals forward Joel Ward said; "I would say the NHL has been a force to kind of obviously embrace and encourage. ... What (Collins) did, I think it's definitely (good) for basketball, and the same for hockey, too. It's going to be encouraging for more guys to step up and just be open about themselves."

Wizards guard Garrett Temple said: "I was surprised. I didn't know and I was right next to him in the locker room. It definitely took a lot of courage for him to come out. He was a great teammate."

Bradley Beal said: "I didn't know about it! I don't think anyone did! I am proud of his decision to come out and express the way he feels and I'm supportive of that!"

Jerry Stackhouse of the Brooklyn Nets said: "I hope Jason is received well by our NBA family. Jason is a friend and a former teammate that I've enjoyed many laughs and conversations with and his sexual orientation won't change that with me. I've already reached out to him personally to show support and will encourage more guys to do the same."

David Stern NBA Commissioner statement about Jason Collins: "Jason has been a widely respected player and teammate throughout his career and we are proud he has assumed the leadership mantle on this very important issue."

Former NBA's John Amaechi who is also gay said: "I think he is immensely brave. I think it's a shame in this day and age he has to be immensely brave, but he is. He's going to be a remarkable and eloquent spokesperson for what it is to be a decent, authentic human being - never mind just for gay people."

Rick Welts president of Golden State Warriors who is also gay: "He probably knows what he signed up for. There'll be a whole bunch more television reporters and cameras than he's probably had in the past. ... There had been a long of speculation about when, who, how. I think that speculation has been put to rest now. and we'll always remember that Jason Collins was the first man to do this."

Former President Clinton said: "Jason's announcement today is an important moment for professional sports and in the history of the LGBT community. It is also the straightforward statement of a good man who wants no more than what so many of us seek: to be able to be who we are; to do our work; to build families and to contribute to our communities. For so many members of the LGBT community, these simple goals remain elusive."

Rep. Joe Kennedy III, D-Mass. a college roommate of Collins: "For as long as I've known Jason Collins he has been defined by three things: his passion for the sport he loves, his unwavering integrity, and the biggest heart you will ever find. Without question or hesitation, he gives everything he's got to those of us lucky enough to be in his life. I'm proud to stand with him today and proud to call him a friend."

Rumor: KG says no thanks to the Nuggets

Kevin Garnett Nuggets, KG nuggets, KG celtics, Kevin Garnett, Boston celtics

Denver Nuggets trade rumors indicate interest in acquiring Kevin Garnett.

Kevin Garnett is everything the Nuggets need. Heck, his scowl alone is more intimidating in the post than all 21 feet of center on Denver’s roster.

So what’s the problem with pushing the idea of a blockbuster trade between Denver and Boston?

Wielding the hammer of a no-trade clause, K.G. wants nothing to do with the Nuggets.

Through his representatives, Garnett has let it be known he has no current interest in the Nuggets.

That’s why it’s pointless to discuss if the Nuggets’ main chip in a trade proposal would be Andre Iguodala, Kenneth Faried or Danilo Gallinari.

Celtics-Nets game brawl

Rajon Rondo, Kris Humphries, and Gerald Wallace all ejected for fighting in Celtics-Nets game.

Rajon Rondo, Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, KG, Kevin Garnett, New Jersey Nets, Boston Celtics

30 seconds remaining in the first half of the game between Celtics and Nets, Kris Humphries fouled Kevin Garnett on a jumper, hitting KG hard in the shoulder that sent him to the floor along the baseline. Rondo, who was near the hoop, immediately grabbed and shoved Humphries. More players got involved, including the Nets' Gerald Wallace, the Celtics' Brandon Bass, the jet, and a late-arriving Garnett.

Rondo, Humphries, and Wallace were all ejected, and all three, they can expect certain fines and possible suspensions in the next few days. Rondo finished with only three assists in 18 minutes, bringing his streak to an end at 37 games, which ties him at second all-time with John Stockton. Magic Johnson will continue to hold the record at 46 games.

Nets won the game 95-83.
